Congrats to Veeam – and more importantly to Veeam Cloud Service Providers (VCSPs) who can now leverage Veeam Data Cloud for their VCSP service delivery.
To be fair, there are some premier VCSPs who have architected some amazing solutions in their own data centers and clouds, particularly those focused on Disaster Recovery or Ransomware Recovery as a service. Similarly, there are some leveraging purpose-built clouds or other architecture elements for some very beneficial customer outcomes. In both cases, they should keep doing the very cool things they’re doing.
FOR THE REST OF THE VCSPs, DPM is excited about what VDC will offer for those delivering backup as-a-service using Veeam software to protect Microsoft 365 and Entra ID.
Technical teams at most MSPs’ spend their time in one of three types of activities:
- Onboarding customers and configuring backups – great! Part of what subscribers want is to supplement or offload the tactical aspects of backup and that’s a good use of MSPs engineers.
- Restoring data – this is really what customers need, not only on their worst days like a natural disaster or cyber encryption, but also just tactical restores with the CFO realizes that they deleted something and the recycle bin doesn’t have it.
- But the third bucket of time, and often a disproportionate time sink, is maintaining the back-end MSP infrastructure: patching backup servers, moving repositories, troubleshooting issues. The reason that I am excited about VDC for VCSPs that offer backup of those key Microsoft workloads is because those MSPs can let go of a time sink that doesn’t deliver value to the customer. Instead, they can let VDC take care of that – which ought to free up those MSP engineers to do more onboarding, more backups, more restores, and hopefully more time to deliver value-add consulting and proactive services, instead.
And that’s good for the customer … which makes the VCSP more valued by their clients, and therefore more sticky … and that’s’ good for the MSP (and Veeam).
