It’s been said that “Actions and Reactions reveal your Real Character” … let’s look at that through the lens of corporate values vs corporate culture.
video transcript
It’s been said that “your actions and your reactions reveal your real character.” Eric Partaker on LinkedIn had a great piece this week contrasting corporate values with corporate culture – click here.
So, if you put those two concepts together, then the advice for corporate leaders (especially senior leaders) is that your actions reveal:
- Are you authentically demonstrating your company’s values?
- Do you conduct business with ethics?
- And what is your moral character?
And since we talked about both Actions and Reactions
In the corporate world, the only thing that speaks louder than a leader’s actions are the senior leaders’ accountability.
When a leader:
- Is not acting in alignment with corporate values
- Or is not conducting themselves with ethics
- Or is not demonstrating a moral compass (with or without corporate culture)
Then, is their management holding them accountable?
Because when leaders aren’t demonstrating good actions … and senior leaders aren’t holding them accountable … then every poster or PowerPoint that you have on Values or Culture are irrelevant.
In those orgs, what your people will Value is self-preservation … and those that expect Culture (or have a moral compass) will leave. See you next Monday
