Food makes friends
If you follow these videos, you know how much I love in-person events. External conferences or internal off sites; large scale or small. There’s something powerful about being able to look somebody in the eye instead of seeing them in a box on your screen and I never tire of good handshake or hug.
But I think there’s also a universal truth of food makes friends.
- It’s the reason that families have supper on Sundays …
- It’s why coworkers grab a drink at 5 o’clock before heading home
- It’s why coffee shops have couches and clusters of chairs
- And it’s the reason why my preferred meeting is a brunch … lunch … coffee or other beverage
To be clear, you probably won’t cover as much information as a Zoom call – nor will you show as many PowerPoint slides or other business-y things. Instead, you’ll do something much more important — you’ll connect.
You might not get as much tactical stuff done or if you do it’ll go a lot faster because before and after that you’ll get a sense of their character … their priorities … the coolest thing they did last weekend … or what excites them in their next project.
Maybe you won’t become best friends, but I promise that you will become friendly-er because you’ll build a bridge that will make all your other interactions better.
Because … food makes friends.
See you next Monday
