Some of us were going to start this year with a new diet … or a new exercise program … or were going to start a year-long Bible read or some other book club. Maybe you some other new goal for the new year … or maybe you decided to take a break from podcasting over the holidays but you are going to resume in January.
… and then stuff got busy and for whatever reason, it didn’t happen or the new habit didn’t stick.
I find myself in the trap where I say “OK, well if I didn’t start it January 1st, so I’ll re-start it February 1st.” Why not just start it today
I think a lot of folks, myself included, get wrapped around the guilt or disappointment of “I didn’t carry out my new plan” and they’re so focused on that “failure” that they push it off or never try again.
Every day is a fresh start; regardless of whether the calendar says Day 1 or Day 27. Today is a good day to start:
- to have a salad instead of a burger
- to find your running shoes or walking shoes and go outside or hit a treadmill.
- to open a book to chapter 1 and read for 30 minutes
And yeah, today is a good day to do the first podcast of the new year
We are not promised any tomorrows — and more importantly, every journey begins with a first step. So, if you begin your journey today, then tomorrow isn’t about “finally starting” it’s about “continuing” what you’ve already started.
